Disunity From Unity
Local High School Collaborates with Left-Wing Political Group. This is the type of chaos and disunity that Anne Arundel County Public Schools are creating with their Unity Days.
“Our children and grandchildren may yet curse the day we began hyping race and ethnicity. There are countries where that has led to slaughters in the streets but you cannot name a country where it has led to greater harmony.”
- Thomas Sowell
Every so often, Anne Arundel County Public Schools promotes “Unity Day.” This is a concept that we have covered extensively in the past about Social Justice policies and the Equity Charade in Anne Arundel Schools. As I wrote back in May:
“Equity” as it is defined by its proponents throws these basic American values and principles on their ear. Instead of equality of opportunity, they demand equality of outcome. They ignore Martin Luther King’s dream of judging people not on the color of their skin but the content of their character by insisting that all people are racist. They define “justice” by focusing on outcomes instead of the external factors that lead to those outcomes.
How is that definition of “equity” and “tolerance” supposed to do anything but drive a wedge between average Americans of different races, colors, and creeds?
So as expected, it degenerated into disunity at my alma mater, Chesapeake High School, today thanks to involvement form a radical left-wing political group.
The group OnePasadena is a left-wing group that exists supposedly to “Address Racism in Pasadena.” A look through their Facebook page will show you the usual leftist political canards about racism and a heavy use of references to Black Lives Matter, itself a politically charged movement.
They also have targeted Board of Education Member Corine Frank for not agreeing with their radical politics.
In advance of today’s Unity Day, OnePasadena made chalk drawings on the sidewalk in front of Chesapeake High School. OnePasadena had the full support of the administration, despite the fact that OnePasadena is a political organization.
A message was sent to Chesapeake parents promoting the event and OnePasadena’s involvement.
The school even had requests about what messages the political group should write:
Why any school would get in bed with a political group that is targeting Board of Education members is beyond me, but that’s a story for another day I guess.
One of the organizers of OnePasadena, Debi Jasen, sounds like a real peach.
So after all that has been said, here’s a sample of some of the “Unity” drawings that were chalked in front of the school.
“All Means All” sure is ironic here.. Especially considering a BLM flag and an LBGTQ+ flag were displayed right in front of the school building today.
The Capital has more photos here.
“It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance”
- Thomas Sowell
You won’t be surprised to know that it all went wrong. Parents are mad.
Students are mad. Parents are mad that students are mad.
There are parents who want those who expressed their opinion by destroying the art to be severely punished, of course.
It says a lot that some of these folks want students punished for having a political opinion.
The irony of all of this is that chalking doesn’t do a damn thing to change the hearts and minds of anybody. Hearts and minds are changed through conversation, not indoctrination. They certainly aren’t made by white middle-aged folks drawing political statements for political purposes to achieve political goals.
The wild thing is that if you get down to the root of the matter, this is what OnePasadena is pushing.
Being color blind, having the society that Dr. Martin Luther King wanted, is hurtful?
EVERYBODY (or just about everybody) wants to make sure that we live in a society where people are free to live their life without discrimination. However, this type of agenda pushing has the opposite effect. Instead of encouraging people to change their behavior, it is putting people on the defensive because they themselves are now being attacked.
I know that there are only two genders, male and female. You know that there are only two genders, male and female. Science knows that there are only two genders, male and female. And yet anti-science messages were not only displayed as part of this “Unity Day” but encouraged. It flies in the face of science.
And that doesn’t even take into account the anti-religious bigotry these messages promote.
This is the type of chaos and disunity that Anne Arundel County Public Schools are creating with their Unity Days. Unity Day as it is regularly constructed creates numerous problems that we have already seen time and time again. Unity Days have always promoted disunity and politics at the expense of focusing on educating students. But for any public school to get in bed with any political group to promote a divisive message is bad for schools, bad for teachers, bad for students and bad for the community at large.
This chalking project creates problems. Promoting politics instead of inclusion creates problems. Promoting anti-science messages at the behest of the school creates problems.
If OnePasadena wants to engage in radical left-wing politics, they can feel free to do it. But it sure as hell doesn’t belong in our public schools in the brazen and reckless manner they have done so.
Enough. Is. Enough.
Disunity From Unity
Why are you so threatened by this? I am very confused....
Brian- I am so sorry that your community is changing and that people with your views are leaving Pasadena. It’s shocking that you can find offense to this, as a fellow conservative. Seriously - I’ve been reading RedMaryland for years. Please consider adapting to the 21st century.
