American Eats: South Dakota. Wall Drug
At one point, the existence of Wall Drug filled a need. Wall Drug was an actual drug store. Then the ownership of Wall Drug started advertising free water and it turned into the tourist trap that it is today.
There is a restaurant at Wall Drug, the Western Art Gallery Cafe. I could not tell you anything about it because I only got an ice cream at the ice cream stand.
Wall Drugs exists solely due to marketing and its proximity to Mount Rushmore. It has grown up to become the biggest tourist trap of the upper midwest. It’s like South of the Border without a hotel or mini golf. If you drive across South Dakota you can, bluntly, afford to miss this one.
