American Eats: Virginia. King's Arms Tavern
Practically every body on the East Coast has been to Colonial Williamsburg On at least one of those trips, you’ve ended up eating at one of the many “historical” restaurants in Colonial Williamsburg proper.
If you are getting the sense that here aren’t too many memorable restaurants in Virginia, you’re right.
Anyway, a long long time ago, I had dinner at the King’s Arms Tavern. I got steak and it came with a side of whipped white mashed potatoes.
Well at least I thought they were mashed potatoes. Instead, it was a heaping pile of horseradish that looked an awful lot like mashed potatoes.
Anyway, that quite interrupted my meal until I could get the taste back in my mouth.
There is no real reason to go to the restaurants at Colonial Williamsburg. And if you do, go to Chownings to get the black walnut ice cream. I just wanted to tell a self-deprecating story…
