Why are you running for office? *
I am running for office because I am mad as hell about what I am experiencing and witnessing in my County. I am running to ensure our Children and Community are the top priorities, and that our County government is run with competence so that we raise the standard for what is expected of and from Prince Georgians. As the most affluent, African-American county in the nation, Prince George's County should and must set the example for others to follow.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why? *
President Joseph R. Biden is my political role model because he reminded me that Plato said, "If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools."
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why? *
My favorite book about politics is The Republic by Plato. It is an intellectual discourse on justice and what is just in society and politics.
What will be your top priority in office? *
My top priority will be children and the community.
What is the biggest issue facing your area? *
The biggest issue facing my area is inequity and the resulting achievement, academic, and economic gaps.
What are the three biggest issues facing Maryland? *
The three biggest issues facing Maryland are recovery from the pandemic, improvements in education, and police reform.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide) *
When it comes to life issues, I am a liberal and believe individuals should be able to make informed, personal choices and decisions with limited interference from government.
What is your position on taxes and spending? *
I am a moderate when it comes to taxes and spending. Government is supposed to provide for the public good, but spending should not be wasteful.
What is your position on gun rights? *
I support background checks and believe gun registration should be required for the good of the public. Military assault weapons should be banned from public purchase; they have no purpose outside of the wartime environment.
What is your position on the legalization of marijuana? *
I believe marijuana should be decriminalized and regulated similarly to alcohol. The recreational, unsupervised use of marijuana creates a public safety hazard that cannot be ignored.
What is your position on the current three-tiered system for the sale and distribution of alcohol? *
The current three-tiered system does not reduce the public safety risk associated with the consumption of alcohol. It is a revenue builder for the State and local governments.
What is your position on land use, growth, and development? *
I support smart, well-planned, strategic land use, growth, and development.
What is your position on crime and public safety? *
I support compassionate, responsible safety measures to protect the public. Crime can be reduced by strengthening the education system and improving workforce development programs. For those who are determined to engage in criminal activity, law enforcement is appropriate and necessary for punishment and deterrence.
What is your position on county tax caps? *
In the face of unfettered development, county tax caps seem acceptable. However, county tax authority and revenue streams should be studied to determine what is most economical and beneficial.
Was Joe Biden legitimately elected President of the United States in the November 2020 Election? *
Yes
Do you pledge to accept the results of your election? *
Yes
