Why are you running for office?*
Because Howard County needs a strong GOP to maintain a balance and give conservative and moderate voters a voice.
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?*
Allan Kittleman, because he is politically moderate, sane and deliberate in his decisions, and is honest, moral and caring.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?*
That is a very tough choice! I am always inspired by the writings of Thomas Jefferson. I like Ayn Rand, no matter what anyone says. I think the best current book I've read, although the author is more liberal than I, is BULLY PULPIT by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It shows that so much of what is happening today happened also over 100 years ago. I also enjoyed BLACK REDNECKS, WHITE LIBERALS by Thomas Sowell.
What do you see as the role of the Central Committee?*
First and foremost, to get candidates elected, whether that means raising funds, training and recruiting candidates and volunteers, hosting events or providing resources like office space. Second, to promote the party and educate voters about our message.
What are the three biggest issues facing your county party?*
Education - funding, redistricting and community/parent voices in curriculum development; Crime; and Cost of living.
What are the three biggest issues facing your state party?*
A Democratic super-majority in the legislature; taxes; controlling the narrative about the GOP.
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)*
I hate abortion. I would never want a family member to have one. That said, I am pro-choice. I believe an individual has a right to end his or her own life, but there are ethical and logistical challenges to assisted suicide.
What is your position on taxes, spending, and the federal deficit?*
Taxes are a necessary evil. We need them to fund government, but government has a tendency to grow and create new taxes. We need to fight that tendency and keep taxes under control. Taxes should never be used for the purpose of wealth redistribution. The federal deficit is an embarrassment and a threat to our economic security. It must be eliminated.
What is your position on gun rights?*
I believe what the Second Amendment says: "The right... shall not be infringed." The "regulated militia" clause is merely explanatory. It does not limit the right.
Do you believe that Maryland primary elections should be open to independent voters?*
Yes
Do you believe that the state party and the county parties should be allowed to endorse in primary elections?*
No
Do you believe that Maryland Republican Party auxiliary organizations should have a vote on the Maryland Republican Party executive committee?*
Yes
Would you support limiting the terms of Maryland Republican Party officers to eight consecutive years in the same office?*
Yes
Was Joe Biden legitimately elected President of the United States in the November 2020 Election?*
Yes
Do you pledge to accept the results of your election?*
Yes
