Why are you running for office?*
Born & raised in Anne Arundel County, I am a lifelong Marylander, attending two accredited Universities (Salisbury University Bachelor of Science; University of Baltimore Masters in Business Administration). I am a proud father, devote husband, small business owner, volunteer high school varsity baseball coach, real estate Broker (MD & NC), investor, Republican, philanthropist, charitable foundation board member, entrepreneur, big thinker, mentor, leadership academy graduate, leadership scholarship recipient, task force member & delegate candidate. I can and will make a difference for this great State! Schmidt for Delegate 2022 #vote4stu #vote2022 #AACoDelegate
Who do you consider your political role model, and why?*
Ed Reilly, he is a small business owner and a true family man. Ed is ingrained in the community, through church, civic associations, schools, first responders and I will carry on his legacy here in District 33 and the entire State of Maryland.
What is your favorite book about politics and policy, and why?*
Reaganland - because it shares Ronald Reagan's determination win an election and to help the American people in a time when we needed it the most. Reaganland highlights a change in American conservatism and how a "non" politician can become The President of the United States and how his policies have endured many decades later.
What will be your top priority in office?*
Inflation and how to make Maryland more affordable for everyone especially retirees and Military.
What is the biggest issue facing your area?*
Crime in Anne Arundel County
What are the three biggest issues facing Maryland?*
Crime, Drugs, Inflation, Education
What is your position on life issues? (abortion, assisted suicide)*
Pro Life I don't know enough about assisted suicide to have a position
What is your position on taxes and spending?*
The answer is not to tax more to spend more. We must hold the government accountable to a budget and a plan.
What is your position on gun rights?*
I believe in the right to bear arms.
What is your position on the legalization of marijuana?*
I do not support the legalization of marijuana for recreational use. I believe that cannabis has positive medical benefits, however, legalizing drugs is NOT the answer and opens up more negative than positive.
What is your position on the current three-tiered system for the sale and distribution of alcohol?*
I think the three-tiered system is primitive and cumbersome. This can be streamlined and cost savings.
What is your position on land use, growth, and development?*
I believe in logical and smart growth. I am not a proponent of urban sprawl and we have a beautiful state to protect land and waterways. A majority of Anne Arundel County is on the water (533 miles of waterfront) and we should work to keep this majestic.
What is your position on crime and public safety?*
We must get back to police as members of our community that are here to protect and serve. All too often the police are seen in a negative light and we must educate our youth that this is not the case. When I was in public elementary school in Glen Burnie, we had the D.A.R.E. program. This impacted my life tremendously as I avoided the pitfalls of drugs and crime. I worked hard to pay my way through Salisbury University as wanted to make something more out of my life. To this day I credit relationships with the police in school and college as a big help.
What is your position on county tax caps?*
I believe in county tax caps as it prevents sharp increases which affects home owners.
For candidates for the General Assembly: Legislators can receive $101 per day for lodging and $47 per day for meals during the 90-day General Assembly session. If elected, do you plan to accept these benefits? Why or why not?
No, I can afford my own lodging and food. I live close enough and do not need this benefit as others may.
Was Joe Biden legitimately elected President of the United States in the November 2020 Election?*
Yes
Do you pledge to accept the results of your election?*
Yes
