Cooper Urges MDGOP Support of Bogus Texas Lawsuit
Proposed Resolution pledges Support of Paxton Lawsuit, explore other actions MDGOP can Take
Maryland Republican Party Vice-Chairman Brandon Cooper (pictured above) has proposed a resolution that would pledge Maryland Republican Party support to the lawsuit attempting to overturn the Presidential Election Results in four swing states.
A copy of Cooper’s proposed resolution is available here.
Cooper, who is challenging incumbent Chairman Dirk Haire at this Saturday’s Maryland Republican Party convention, states that the MDGOP “support efforts across the country to count every legal vote and to investigate and penalize election fraud in the 2020 presidential election” and “fully support the efforts of Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton, and 17 other state Attorney Generals, in filing a lawsuit with the Supreme Court of the United States to ensure that our elections are held in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the United States.”
The lawsuit, if successful, asks that the election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin be thrown out by the courts so that Republican legislatures can instead select a slate of electors favorable in to President Donald Trump in Trump’s ongoing efforts to invalidate the 2020 Presidential Election result.
The lawsuit is led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has been subpoenaed by the FBI in an investigation of abuse of office and bribery allegations lodged against Paxton.
The lawsuit, which has the support of 17 attorneys general and 106 members of Congress (including Maryland Congressman Andy Harris), is an absurd Hail Mary attempt to change the results of the Presidential Election.
It may also be a brazen attempt by Ken Paxton to get a pardon, too.
If this resolution even comes to a vote, it should be soundly rejected by Maryland Republican Central Committee Members. This lawsuit is an insult to every principle the Republican Party has ever claimed to hold regarding Constitutional governance and instead is little more than an effort to placate the ego of a defeated President. This lawsuit and everybody who supports it will be permanently stained by their support of the principles of authoritarian rule.
Though some, including Jeb Bush, Ben Sasse, and Jon Cornyn have rightfully rejected this nonsense, too many have signed off on it.
Jonah Goldberg accurately called the idea a “constitutional crime”.
Bottom Line: The lawsuit is bogus and the Maryland Republican Party should not lend its name to supporting it.
