Cox Getting Clobbered In Latest Poll
Republican nominee trails Wes Moore by unprecedented margin
There is no other way to describe it: Wes Moore is kicking Dan Cox’s ass in the latest publicly available poll:
Maryland Democrat and political newcomer Wes Moore holds a 32-percentage-point lead over Donald Trump-aligned Republican Dan Cox in the governor’s race five weeks before Election Day, a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll finds…
….The poll of 810 Maryland registered voters, conducted by telephone Sept. 22-27, with 79 percent reached on cellphone, finds 60 percent say they would vote for Moore, with 28 percent supporting Cox and 9 percent undecided. The poll’s margin of sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
The poll, for some reason, did not include the other three candidates on the ballot as potential selections.
It also shows the fact that Cox is absolutely blowing his chance at this election:
The economy was the most important issue for 24 percent of registered voters in the Post-UMD poll, and half of those voters say they would vote for Cox, compared with 39 percent who support Moore. With inflation at a 40-year high, the stock market tumbling and a potential recession looming, political experts see the economy as an issue with potential to boost Cox’s showing in November.
The economy is the number one issue, but Cox is spending his time focused on Wes Moore’s book, Wes Moore not going to the Morgan State debate, litigating the counting of absentee ballots, and vaccine mandates.
The focus on Wes Moore skipping debates is ironic considering Dan Cox is skipping a forum on Monday where all the candidates but him will attend.
Back to the poll, what are the top four issues to voters right now?
Economy: 24%
Threats to Democracy: 20%
Crime: 14%
Public Education: 14%
Cox had a golden opportunity to hit Wes Moore and the Democrats on three of those four issues, but instead, he’s pissing it away by talking about virtually anything but those three issues. He might be running the worst statewide campaign in history; even worse than the campaign Ben Jealous ran in 2018, and that’s saying something.
It is probably not coincidental that Larry Hogan has focused on the economy and crime during his time as Governor and has a 73% approval rating.
There are a little over five weeks until the election. Dan Cox has no money, is running an idiotic campaign, and is on pace for the biggest Republican gubernatorial loss in Maryland since 1986. Other Republicans at this point would be wise to run to the hills and save themselves from this sinking ship.
