Cox's Electoral Dysfunction
Dan Cox received the lowest raw vote total in years. He received half as many total votes as Larry Hogan in 2018, and that's just part of the story.
The results of the Maryland gubernatorial election have been certified. And we have an even better picture of just how badly Dan Cox performed in the general election.
In 2022, Dan Cox received the lowest raw vote total for a Maryland Republican gubernatorial nominee since William Shephard in 1990.
Every Maryland Republican candidate since 1994 received at least 40,000 more votes than Cox did in this year’s election. And Larry Hogan in his 2018 re-election campaign received nearly twice as many votes as Cox did this year.
What really stands out about the comparison between Cox’s 2022 performance and Shephard’s is the difference in Maryland population in 1990 compared to 2022. In 1990, 4,781,468 lived in Maryland. That has increased to 6,177,224, a 29% increase in population.
Every post-election data point has confirmed the obvious; Dan Cox never stood a chance to be elected Governor. Cox was too Trumpy and too incompetent to ever compete.
