In light of the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago on Monday, Dan Cox has abandoned any pretext of focusing on Maryland to instead focus on Donald Trump.
Cox’s Facebook page in the last 24 hours has been festooned with nothing but discussion of Trump and the raid.
The most out of touch of all the things Cox said was that he would weaponize the state government, particularly the Maryland State Police and the Maryland National Guard to resist the federal government.
While that is the most insane thing Cox said, there were other posts related generally to just supporting Trump.
Why is Cox doing this? Yes, it is understandable that Cox is and always has been a sycophantic acolyte of President Trump during his years in public life. But at the same time, Cox is running for Governor, as the Republican nominee in Maryland, in a state where Donald Trump has no popularity among Democratic and independent voters.
As a reminder, Trump received 33.9% in the general election in Maryland in 2016 and 32.2% in the general election. And those numbers, likely, have gone done since the attempted coup d’etat of January 6, 2021.
And yet Cox is here pumping up Trump and defending him time and time and time again.
This all gets even more complicated when you remember that Cox has a history of calling people traitors for not following Trump to the abyss….
…..while Trump supporters are threatening Civil War over the raid.
After news broke that the FBI searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida on Monday, his supporters openly called for an armed violent response, and ultimately, civil war.
“Civil War 2.0 just kicked off,” one user wrote on Twitter, with another adding, “One step closer to a kinetic civil war.” Others said they were ready to take part: “I already bought my ammo.”
MAGA, QAnon, and far-right message boards and Telegram channels lit up Monday night with calls for a violent response to what some extremists see as a political attack directed by the Biden administration.
“This is how you light the match to a civil war,” one user on Twitter wrote in response to the news.
Similar rhetoric was shared in far-right channels on Telegram. “Civil war coming to America, there won't be any more elections,” one member said.

And yet Cox is stirring the fire of all of this with his full-throated defense of Trump while he is being raided by the FBI, while Trump is under threat of prosecution in Georgia, and while Trump is under threat of federal prosecution for his role in the events of January 6th.
This isn’t even about Trump at this point and whether or not Cox supports him. It is about Cox’s duty as a party nominee to try to get elected. He has a responsibility, whether he acknowledges it or not, to not sink the entire ticket by his actions. It’s a responsibility he seems to not understand.
Dan Cox Loses The Thread
Cox might feel that he has to focus on Trump due to the endorsement Cox received. Just a thought.
