Dan Cox's Bizarre Friday Night Statement About Larry Hogan is Beyond Weird
Weird (and factually questionable) statement about Hogan shows Cox doesn't actually care about becoming Governor
Dan Cox had a rough Friday night on Facebook.
Not content to stop with a video where he semi-coherently rambled about Ukraine and seemingly took the side of Russia
, Cox posted this gem sometime after midnight:As you know, Cox got shellacked by Kelly Schulz in fundraising and has less cash on hand than Robin Ficker. That Cox had the chutzpah to publish such a fakakta release is beyond me.
What’s more is the fact that the Cox statement on Hogan, not surprisingly, lacks context. In 2014, Larry Hogan was participating in the state campaign fund program, that providing matching funds to the Hogan campaign. This is something that Cox is not participating in, so the Hogan campaign did not need to raise as much money as the Cox campaign did.
Secondly, Governor Hogan did not even announce his campaign for Governor until late November 2013, less than two months prior to the filing deadline. That means Cox had three times the amount of time to raise money and barely raised more funds in real dollars in Hogan.
Now, let’s talk about inflation.
In 2021 dollars, Hogan raised about $455,000 dollars during the period Cox claims. Which is about $60,000 more than Cox’s claimed figure.
Cox even comparing his campaign funds to Hogan is insane. Hogan is not on the ballot and his not running for re-election. Kelly Schulz raised almost four times as much money as Cox and has almost four times as much cash on hand as Cox. That number will continue to grow as Cox cannot raise funds during the General Assembly session. The only way Cox could get around that would be to resign from the General Assembly, and I’m sure his ego would never allow that.
(Of course, since Cox has sponsored zero bills in the General Assembly so far this year and only co-sponsored two others, I’m not sure what he is doing in Annapolis either, but I digress)
But what this statement does lie bear for all of us to see is what Dan Cox’s campaign is about. It isn’t about winning. It isn’t about taking shots at Larry Hogan. The same Larry Hogan that endorsed Cox for election in 2018 when he needed the help the most.
Cox in his mind probably thinks this all, in some way, helps Donald Trump’s 2024 comeback attempt since pleasing Trump is the only thing in Dan Cox’s political life he truly cares about.
What this statement proves is that Cox’s campaign is a joke that he just hasn’t been let in on yet.
Also, what kind of jerk takes time out from a dinner out with their wife to make a video like this? Seriously.
My thoughts exactly, I'd be dumping a man who took me out for a nice evening and then pulled out his phone to put one more post on FB. Good grief!
