Democrats Vote for Parole for Cop Killers
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that Democrats can say to defend this.
Huge and ugly story coming out of Annapolis today.
GOP : During today’s Floor Session, Senate Democrats voted to allow parole for cop killers by voting for an amendment that effectively gutted SB 652 – the Officer Keona Holley Public Safety Act.
That’s right. Democrats vote in the Senate voted to allow cop killers to be paroled. Here is the vote on the amendment.
Republicans were joined by two Democratic State Senators, Katie Fry Hester and Kathy Klausmeier, both of whom are ostensibly going to be in hotly contested swing seat elections this year.
Another swing-seat Democrat, Sarah Elfreth, voted for letting criminals who kill cops out of prison on parole.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that Democrats can say to defend this.
As a Christian, I strongly disagree with your apparent presumption that there are people who are inherently evil and incapable of redemption, and therefore we must punish them for life regardless of any changes in their attitude and behavior. The treatment of offenders needs to focus on work to get them to the point where they can be constructive participants in society and not a danger to it. Studies show that harsh punishment is not very effective at preventing crime. The revenge-minded attitude is harmful to society. Offenders should be incarcerated only as needed to protect society. If they are rehabilitated, continued incarceration does not serve society as well as not recognizing the inherent dignity and worth of each human being made in the image of God.
