Did Dan Cox Endorse Two Candidates for the Same Office?
Both Cathey Allison and Kate Maerten claim support from Cox
Has Dan Cox endorsed two candidates for the same office?
Yesterday, Carroll County Commissioner candidate Kate Maerten posted this message of support from Cox.
The message of support from Cox is interesting if only because Carroll County Commissioner candidate Cathey Allison posted her own message of support and endorsement from Cox on April 20th.
Both Allison and Maerten are running in the very same district, District 5.
So what exactly has happened here? Did Dan Cox really endorse two candidates for the same office when only one of them can win?
Arguably, Dan Cox did not endorse Kate Maerten. Cox only indicated his support for Maerten and how she was a friend and how she would do a great job as Commissioner. It did not use the word endorsement, as the message of support for Allison did.
But c’mon, the nuance is going to be lost among most voters. Voters who see literature from Maerten and see Cox’s message of support are going to assume it is an endorsement. Now there are two candidates in one race for one office claiming the an endorsement from the same guy.
The happiest person in all of this is probably incumbent Commissioner Ed Rothestein.
We haven’t seen this kind of weird double endorsement since Robin Ficker, of all people, tried to convince people to support Donald Trump and Ted Cruz simultaneously in the 2016 Congressional District 6 primary.
If Cox had competent people surrounding him instead of whatever hangers-on he can find, this kind of mistake would not have happened. But it’s just another day in the neverending amateur hour that is the Cox campaign.
Robin Ficker is a true conservative unlike demented Biden-style RINO Dan Cox
