ENDORSEMENT: Kelly Schulz for Governor
Our policy has always been to follow the Buckley Rule and support the most conservative candidate in the field that can win. Unequivocally, that candidate is Kelly Schulz.
I have known Kelly Schulz since long before she was a candidate for Governor. Before she was a cabinet secretary. Before she was even a delegate. Kelly and I were working on a project behind the scenes together while she served on the Frederick County Republican Central Committee
At the time, we weren’t exactly seeing eye to eye on that project.
But what I did see was somebody who was smart, tough, and committed to doing what was right. That has certainly not changed over the last 10+ years since we first met.
Kelly Schulz did not have things handed to her on a silver platter. While raising her sons she simultaneously was putting herself through college while working as a bartender. All the while, she was working in her community and being there for her kids.
From those humble beginnings came somebody who wound up working as a defense contractor, owned a cybersecurity firm, and was elected to public office.
As a Delegate, Kelly focused on legislation that was important to business owners and workers alike. We are all touched by banks, business development, and labor laws in some way or another. During her time as a Delegate, she worked to make sure that those laws were updated in a way that benefitted Marylanders. Kelly also was a tireless advocate for Jessica’s Law, which became law despite constant opposition by Democrats.
Importantly, she also sponsored a Personhood amendment to the State Constitution that would protect life from conception.
From there she spent seven years in the cabinet of Governor Larty Hogan as both Secretary of Labor and Secretary of Commerce. Her accomplishments in the Hogan administration are lengthy but include growing Maryland’s apprenticeship program grew to its highest level since 2008 and reducing unnecessary fees and regulations for businesses.
Kelly Schulz is the only candidate in the field with a proven conservative track record of accomplishment.
But elections aren’t all about the past. There are about the future, and the future Kelly Schulz wants for Maryland is the brightest of all possible visions for Maryland, including;
Real school choice for Maryland’s students and parents;
Expanded charter and P-TECH schools
Transparency in our schools and our bureaucracy;
Expanded vocation and technical education programs;
Lower Maryland’s taxes;
Continuing her work of reducing taxes and fees on Maryland’s business
Kelly Schulz is just like so many of us, a hard-working parent who wants Maryland to be a better place tomorrow than it is today.
Experience matters. And Kelly Schulz is the only candidate running for Governor of Maryland who has experience in the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the private sector. Nobody in the field can match that.
My policy has always been to follow the Buckley Rule and support the most conservative candidate in the field that can win. Unequivocally, that candidate is Kelly Schulz.
This November, we have a chance to keep moving Maryland in the right direction. That is why The Duckpin wholeheartedly endorses Kelly Schulz for Governor of Maryland.

The Buckley Rule? Did he come back to tell you who can win or is it your super powers to predict the future?
Dan can win in 2022, this is the year for a true conservative.
Here is an article contrasting the two candidates.

Interesting question highlighted in article, is she running? She hasn’t filed. Has she picked a running mate? Is it you? 😂
Would Buckley have supported “demanding you wear the damn mask”, “calling small locally owned businesses and churches non-essential”, and the socialist “Global Pandemic Prevention and Biodefense Center”?
As a past Buckley supporter, I think not. I’m sure he would have called her a liberal.
Lots of safe statements. Disappointed that additional police funding did not include oversight and worried that this style of schooling abandons students with parents who don't care and will not bring up failing/struggling schools. But apart from that seems like a continuation of the Hogan rule which has not been terrible.
I'm suspicious why their is not one of your surveys for her as i would like the answer to some of those.
