Wicomico County has been a county in flux for well over a year. The death of County Executive Bob Culver begat a bizarre series of events that ended up with an Active County Executive staying in office for over a year due to the Council’s inability to fill the vacancy. Acting County Executive John Psota has been in office since. He will leave office in December after his Republican primary loss to Julie Giordano.

Basically, Wicomico County has a chance to set a course for the future, one that is stable. The major party candidates leave a lot to be desired.

Julie Giordano is from the Trump-Cox wing of the GOP. She won the Republican primary on the basis of that and her attempt to use the transitive property to claim Trump’s endorsement. She is a graduate of the Peroutka-backed Institute on the Constitution. But beyond that, why is Giordano running? Giordano’s agenda is so vague as to be meaningless.

It also does not help to be a teacher running for County Executive with Cox-esque spelling and grammar problems. What singular waterman does Julie Giordano want to protect, anyway.

So other than being a “Conservative” what does Giordano really want to do for Wicomico?

Her Democratic Opponent, County Councilman Ernest Davis, is hardly better.

His agenda is as vague as Giordano’s. The only thing that is really clear from Davis’ platform is that his plan for Wicomico will involve bigger government and higher taxes for Wicomico County citizens.

Fortunately for Wicomico voters, there is a serious candidate running for County Executive: Salisbury City Councilman Muir Boda.

Muir Boda comes from a family with Deep Roots on the Eastern Shore. With those deep roots has come a life of service to the Shore in general and Wicomico County in particular. He has an extensive resume of public service, including twice being elected to the Salisbury City Council, serving on the Tri-County Council of the Lower Eastern Shore, as President of the Eastern Shore Association of Municipalities, a Board Member of the Maryland Municipal League, and more.

Boda’s years of service have provided him with an understanding of Wicomico County and allows him to articulate what he wants to do for Wicomico County. From organizational leadership to the Water and Sewer Systems and beyond, Boda knows what he wants to see in county government and the vision that he has for the County.

Much like in the race for Governor, when the major parties nominate lackluster candidates, voters should seek out another option. Wicomico County voters have that and should cast their vote for the only serious candidate in the race. With that, The Duckpin endorses Muir Boda for Wicomico County Executive.
