Is Cox/Schifanelli Schism Because of Peroutka?
More background on the lunatic fringe's soap opera
Sources tell The Duckpin that the schism between Dan Cox and his running mate Gordana Schifanelli goes back to the team’s relationship with Attorney General candidate Michael Peroutka.
A source within the Maryland Republican Party shared the following with The Duckpin on the condition of anonymity.
Dan and Gordana were running separate campaigns pretty much from early October. Dan tried to distance himself from Peroutka, and made it a known standing order to his campaign.
Dan realized that Peroutka caused him a ton of problems; Peroutka was the one who purportedly urged Dan to impeach the Governor earlier this year. A move that Dan quickly regretted it when reality sank in.
Dan’s Field Director, Kate Sullivan (running for one of the other positions) got canned by Dan for refusing his orders and going to that huge mess with Peroutka and Gordana at Towson University. Gordana was closely aligned with Peroutka and refused to budge on Peroutka.
So in summary, Dan was trying to eliminate the most problematic people and Gordana was putting them back on the staff of her personal campaign after Dan fired the
The most hilarious part is that Peroutka still outran him because he was so obscure the public perceived him as less of a wingnut.
Make of all of this what you will, but it does appear to shed some background regarding the schism between the two former running mates and is a reminder of just how not ready for prime time the Republican Ticket was this year
