Kim Klacik Knew Exactly What She Was Doing Naming Her Event "Unite The Right"
For Klacik and her audience, referencing the Charlottesville debacle was a feature and not a bug
Monday saw a lot of consternation among conservatives and in the media about an event planned for October 22nd in Arnold.
Several Republican candidates are scheduled to attend a political event later this month called “Unite the Right” — the same name used at the deadly 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The event is hosted by Kim Klacik, a WBAL Radio talk show host and former candidate for Congress who is founder and president of Red Renaissance, a political action committee. It also will feature James McCoy Taylor, a musician and former contestant on “The Bachelor” dating television show, who is a supporter of former President Donald Trump and a celebrity in conservative circles.
It won’t surprise you to learn that Kim Klacik was in the middle of all of this. It is her scamPAC, Red Renaissance, that was organizing the event. The poster for the event says that they are selling “tickets” but the link only takes you to this generic donation page with this ridiculous photo of Kim Klacik.
How again am I supposed to take this person seriously?
The event was being organized locally by Dawn Pulliam, a former Anne Arundel County Council candidate and LaToya Nkongolo, a former House candidate. Pulliam claims that her organizing team had no idea that the connection existed.
Two co-hosts of the event said they were not aware that “Unite the Right” was associated with the deadly rally in Charlottesville. After this article was first published, one co-host said plans are under way to change the name.
“We were just thinking of something that would bring people together. It looks like it created the opposite reaction,” said Dawn Pulliam, a co-host who ran unsuccessfully for the Anne Arundel County Council this year.
Pulliam said in planning the event, organizers debated whether to call it “Unite the Right” or “Maryland United.” She said there was “no ill intent” in picking “Unite the Right” as the name. No one mentioned the Charlottesville rally, she said.
“I think we need to discuss it and change it right away,” Pulliam said.
What’s interesting is that Nkongolo also noted that Klacik invited her to host the event. We’ll get to that in a second.
Dan Cox wisely noped his way out of the event as soon as the connection with Charlottesville was made apparent:
Republican gubernatorial nominee Dan Cox on Monday canceled an upcoming appearance and denounced a Republican event called “Unite the Right” — the same name as the white supremacist rally that turned deadly in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017….
…Cox’s campaign said in a statement Monday afternoon that it was unaware of the event’s title.
“We will not be associated with anything that is reminiscent, accidental or otherwise, of the unspeakable tragedy that took place in Charlottesville, VA on August 12, 2017,” the statement read. “Anything less is unacceptable. Dan Cox and his campaign remains committed to the empowerment, safety and freedom of all Marylanders.”
Klacik of course remains defiant in all of this.
She also took the opportunity to post some sort of thirst trap for all her fanboys, for some reason.
But this morning, Klacik finally bowed to pressure did the right thing, and renamed the event.
Ironically she still uses the “Unite the Right” name for her tiny URL.
UPDATE: What she apparently couldn’t do was actually book the advertised venue:
And that gets me back to the fact that I don’t believe for one second that Kim Klacik choosing to name this event “Unite the Right” is accidental. She damn well knew that the name “Unite the Right” would invoke the events of Charlottesville. For her that was not a bug, it was a feature.
Just look at her statement. She’s blaming the “journalists” for making a big deal out of her mistake. She says she’s bringing the GOP together when, in reality, she has made it a point to tear the party apart. Instead of apologizing for invoking a deadly racist incident, she has instead tried to blame white liberals for “trying to suppress my voice” as a black woman. Ironically because nobody has called for her rally to be canceled, just pointed out that her rally has racist and fascist undertones.
I’m surprised Klacik hasn’t renamed her afternoon show “Triumph of the Will” at this point.
What you need to remember is that the people who think that the Unite the Right rally was a good idea are the same knuckleheads who think that those arrested for the January 6th attempted coup are “political prisoners”. These are not serious people looking for serious discourse, they are looking for somebody to affirm their beliefs and to affirm that their radicalism is somehow “normal.”
Klacik naming the event “Unite the Right” gave her an opportunity to cry racism while also dog-whistling her supporters. There is no chance that this was not part of her plan.
