The New York Meats bested league-leading ERL in the finals of the Mid Atlantic Wiffle Wiffs and Waves tournament on Saturday.
The Meats took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch by ERL starter Mike Stiles in the 1st inning and held it the whole way beautiful Showell Park in Berlin, Maryland.
Vin Lea threw a complete game shutout for the Meats.
Both teams went 2-1 in pool play prior to the knockout round, with both teams no-hitting Maryland based Old Line Wiffle Club (captained by The Duckpin’s founder and editor Brian Griffiths)
The Meats entered the playoffs as the #6 seed, knocking off the #3 York Yaks in the first round and the 7th-seeded Shortballs in the semifinals.
4th-seeded ERL won a revenge game against the WILL Waves (who defeated ERL in the last pool play game) and the top seeded Longballs in the semis before going on to defeat ERL.
