In a despicable tweet, Gordana Schifanelli (running mate with Dan Cox) tweets:

“More ethical and relevant than this hit piece” and provides the link to a medical Congress convening in March discussing Long Covid disease.  She is calling the medical Congress/meeting a “hit piece”.

I sit here angry, stunned, and frustrated, to think that Gordana is so utterly devoid of compassion for all the Long Covid sufferers this virus has given us.

Gordana, here is some education for you regarding Long Covid.

We have an entirely new medical specialty created for Long Covid patients, as Long Covid is a multi-system syndrome.  Long Covid medical clinics require a multidisciplinary approach involving neurologists, pulmonologists, hematologists, physical medicine and rehab specialists, cardiologists, renal specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, endocrinologists, etc.

About 11.1 million Americans are living with long COVID-19, according to new estimates from The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/patient-safety-outcomes/estimates-of-americans-with-long-covid-19-per-state.html

Maryland has approximately 142,822 Long Covid patients.   More are sure to suffer from this syndrome because this virus simply is not done with us.   Besides the compassionate piece of this issue (which is definitely lacking in Gordana’s tweet), what will Gordana do about the economic costs, in terms of medical care, disability issues, lost productivity issues, that Maryland will face?  This expense will go on for years as we have children, teens, young adults, middle-aged and older folks currently with Long Covid.

“British researchers led by Oxford University said on Friday that the current understanding of #LongCovid and options to treat it is emerging as a major long-term issue for global healthcare systems.”  – Jonas Kunst

Let me provide Gordana with some tweets and comments from Long Covid patients or their physicians:

“Normally, a patient should be able to extract 75% of the oxygen from their blood, but the #LongCovid patients are able to extract only 50%” – Dr. Joseph@Yale

“I approach a red light, my brain knows that it’s red, but it’s not reacting to the rest of my body to put my foot on the brakes.  Do you understand how terrifying that is?” –Samantha Lewis, 34

“Something as simple as climbing on a ladder all of a sudden became a mountain.” --Eddie Palacios, 50

“I can’t breathe.  It literally feels like someone was sitting on my chest.” –Angelica Baez, 23

“I have a PhD in Engineering and I was unable to read a graph for months. I couldn't understand the introduction to a technical book _that I wrote_. For months I couldn't copy a 6 digit code from my phone to my laptop and be sure they were the same. It's a disability.”

“It’s really not something you can push through.”  --Dr. Abigail Bosk

“Long Covid has made me unable to hold a conversation. At present, I am often unable to remember what I am trying to express, mid-sentence. In addition, it’s very difficult to comprehend what you have just said. Attempting to focus and concentrate through this is exhausting.” – Roger Baker

Some references for you to read, Gordana.  Long Covid is real!!!!!

I am appalled at the lack of understanding and compassion that Gordana has displayed.  I am appalled that anyone would consider her an appropriate candidate for Lt. Governor of Maryland.  Maryland HAS to do better than this.

Neither Gordana or Dan Cox have any understanding of health issues or the issues involved with pandemics.  They both tend to shoot from the hip when they see a “headline” that will rile their base.  Gordana proves to be, like Dan Cox, a clear and present danger to Marylanders’ health.

Talk about a hit piece. My interpretation of her tweet that you didn't include was she was replying to the @CREWcrew hit piece on Don Jr. She seemed to be saying the Long Covid Solutions Event post by @CREWcrew is more ethical and relevant than the Don Jr. hit piece.

I agree with her.

I think you owe her an apology!
