National Media Continues Building a Wes Moore Hagiography
National Media continues its kid gloves treatment of Maryland's Governor-Elect, but that's not what's most disturbing in this CBS interview.
Wes Moore’s Presidential Campaign….er, pre-inaugural media tour, landed on CBS Sunday Morning today.
There is a lot to break down in a 6 minute, 36 piece that sounds more like a campaign video than it does a video by a news organization.
The most obvious piece here is that, other than the biographical story of Moore, it was focused entirely on Baltimore. Now, obviously, Baltimore is the largest city in the state and has a lot of problems that have, to date, not been solved. But is a throwback to the bad old days of Martin O’Malley when state government focused only on Baltimore and not the other 23 counties in the state.
But here is the other thing that is important to note when Moore talked about Baltimore’s problems and how he plans to address them.
KELAFA SANNEH: A lot of smart people have been working on these issues for a long time. What makes you think you can do something that all these smart, talented people haven’t been able to do?
WES MOORE: I think we have to approach this that it is not about what program can we institute right now. It’s about how we are changing the entire human condition that people are existing it.
SANNEH: Changing the entire human condition?
MOORE: That’s exactly right because you know you could have a person
SANNEY: That’s a tall order for a governor.
MOORE: It’s a very tall order. But it’s doable. We’ve got to change the entire ecosystem It’s the air people breathe, it’s the water that they drink, it’s the home they are living in, it’s transportation assets they have or don’t have, it’s the way they are policed, and that’s something that a Governor can actually fix.
The emphasis is mine. And it’s complete madness.
For years, Democrats have told Marylanders that they don’t want to upset the apple cart. They don’t want to take away our guns, they don’t want to make it hard to stop crime, and they don’t want to take away our cars. They have said for years that Democrats don’t want to radically transform your life.
And here, in this interview, likely barely seen by average Marylanders, Moore drops the façade and says “I want to change everything about your life.”
This is what Marylanders face for the next four years under Wes Moore. A mad dash to change everything about our state, raise our taxes, bloat the size of government, and transform the state into an unrecognizable shell of its former self.
And before Democrats come out and say “well, he’s just talking about Baltimore.” Was he? Because you can’t radically do all of those things in Baltimore without doing them to the rest of Maryland.
