A major national union and a Congressional family are teaming up to try to buy the Frederick County Executive’s office.

According to campaign finance data, the National Education Association and June Trone, the wife of 6th District Congressman David Trone, are the last high-dollar donors to Marylanders for Freedom and Opportunity, the union Super PAC trying to buy off Frederick County voters.

The NEA donated $500,000 to the group, while Trone chipped in $130,000.

Not to be outdone, the Maryland State Education Association threw in another $291,000 themselves.

That’s nearly $1 million in funds this quarter alone from Democratic unions to be primarily used to take out one candidate.

Marylanders for Freedom and Opportunity quickly turned that money into advertising for the Democratic nominee for Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, spending $480,000 in pure negative advertising against Republican nominee Michael Hough.

An additional $145,000 from Marylanders for Freedom and Opportunity was transferred over to Future Anne Arundel, a PAC supporting Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman.

Since September 1st, the Union-backed Marylanders for Freedom and Opportunity spent $401, 660.46 to prop up Jessica Fitzwater’s campaign, compared to only $246,413.11 by the Fitzwater campaign itself.
