The Ravens recently unveiled their 25th Anniversary All-Time team. The team was selected in an online fan vote. And you know how those sometimes go.
For the most part, the people did a pretty good job of selecting the team. Sure there are some places to nitpick (Jacob Jones over Jermaine Lewis at kick returner? Really). But overall a good job.
Except for quarterback. Where voters picked Lamar Jackson.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m a huge Lamar Jackson fan. I was mad that the didn’t draft him with the #25 pick in 2018 (the Hayden Hurst pick) and had to trade back up to get him.
If things keep going the way they are going, I could certainly justify Lamar being the top Ravens QB of all time for the 30th-anniversary team.
But Joe Flacco is, right now, the greatest Ravens quarterback of all.
No, Flacco never threw 36 touchdowns in a year to lead the league like Jackson. Now, Flacco never ran for 1,000 yards in a season. Heck, Flacco has only run for 831 yards his entire career.
But Joe Flacco had 18 4th quarter comebacks as a Raven. Jackson has one.
Flacco had 24 game-winning drives as a Raven. Jackson had three.
Flacco has a 10-5 career playoff record, and a Super Bowl Championship. Lamar Jackson has an 0-2 career playoff record.
Lamar Jackson looks like he is going to revolutionize the quarterback position and will one day be the best Ravens quarterback of all. Heck, he’ll probably be the greatest Ravens offensive player of all. But let’s give credit where credit is due. Right now, based on the cumulative body of work it is Joe Flacco, not Lamar Jackson, who is the true greatest Ravens quarterback.
Couldn't agree more.
