Do you know how hard it is to surprise me anymore? Especially when it comes to things I see on the internet?
I was surprised today. Because I saw possibly the silliest thing I’ve ever seen written on the internet. And let me tell you, I have seen some things.
Rick Wilson is a formerly respected Republican political consultant. However, he has let his dislike of President Donald Trump get the better of him.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m as #NeverTrump as they come. But I have never deigned to attack a pizza chain for thanking a customer eight years ago.
Yes, this really happened. when Wilson attacked Domino’s Pizza for thanking White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany in 2012. Seven years before she became White House Press Secretary:
Seriously, I am absolutely flabbergasted that somebody could:
Think that thanking a customer is “killing your brand”
Think that thanking a customer eight years ago is some sort of brand-crushing political statement.
Think that Donald Trump has anything to do with this; or,
Think that putting it on the internet will do anything but make you look silly.
Somehow, Wilson managed to check off these boxes and go for it.
Wilson isn’t really the only one at fault here. Thousands of people liked the tweet and retweeted it and I’d be willing to bet not one of them actually looked into it before doing it, almost certainly based on the fact that Wilson was trying to get one over on a company highlighting “support” from a Trump Administration member.
Fortunately, Domino’s Pizza wasn’t playing around.
To which I say to Domino’s
I was half tempted to get Domino’s for dinner tonight.
Wilson has long been the poster child for “Trump Derangement Syndrome” but this is so far beyond the pale that I’m not entirely sure words can describe it.
There’s a lesson here. Don’t ever ever ever ever EVER let your political opinions warp your perspective as Wilson has.
Thumbs up Brian. I must add you have a great lineup for the duckpin.... Might be hard to choose who the "hammer" is 🎳
Yeah, that one was pretty dumb.
