TCSYale Providing Opportunities for Women in Politics
Want to manage a campaign or run for political or party office in the future? You’re in luck!
As of January 24, 2022, we are 288 days away from the midterms, and in Maryland, we are less than a month from the filing deadline. The first midterm ballots of 2022 haven’t even been cast yet and people are already looking ahead to 2024. Between now and then, there will be a need for people, particularly women, to run for office and manage campaigns. In the event that you are asked to do one of those things, are you prepared?
If you are a woman who wants to manage a campaign or run for political or party office in the future, you’re in luck! The Campaign School at Yale is currently accepting applications for their 5-day summer session, also known as the best and most intense five days of preparing for your political future.
As stated on their website: The Campaign School at Yale has one mission: increase the number and influence of women in elected and appointed office in the United States and around the globe. We are a nonpartisan, issue-neutral political campaign-training program.
For two decades, TCSYale has launched hundreds of women into the world of political campaigns. Our students have used their Campaign School skills to run for office, from School Board to the Presidency. And they’re advancing their careers in public service from social work to Chief of Staff. So, what are you waiting for?
I had heard of the program through mutual friends who graduated from it and was going back and forth on whether or not to apply. Inspired by the wave of Republican women elected to Congress in 2020: The Year of the Republican Woman, in 2021 I submitted my application and got accepted to their summer session. Originally held in the halls of Yale Law School, due to the COVID-19 it was live online to ensure safety. Described by the New York Times as “sadistically intensive,” during these five days you will learn more about campaigning than you thought was possible. The training covers fundraising, budgeting, messaging, paid media, press operations, grassroots organizing, voter targeting, ethics, polling & research, GOTV, speeches & interviews, digital campaigns, and more! You get to learn from industry leaders on both sides of the aisle and bond with your classmates as you work on your case study projects.
Looking back, attending TCS Yale was honestly life-changing. The information you learn prepares you for whatever you do in your political endeavors. Even through Zoom, I was able to connect with my classmates, many of whom I am still close with. I consider this training essential for anyone serious about a future in public service or in the campaign sphere and encourage any woman interested to attend an information session and apply.
