The Monday Thought

It’s a new year. A new year brings change. Not just in all the elected officials who have and will be taking office.

But change is coming to The Duckpin too. And not just in the logo for The Runback.

There are a lot of changes coming for The Duckpin this year. Some big, some little. Some have happened, and some are to come. But here are some of the new things we plan on doing for you during 2023.

The Duckpin is Now Part of Egoskor LLC

Officially, The Duckpin has new corporate owners, Egoskor LLC. Egoskor is a local content company that promotes sports, fun, and freedom.

In practice, however, nothing is going to change. Egoskor LLC is owned by me. Same publisher. Same ownership. Same editorial perspective.

New Writers

When you write something that’s free like this, writers are always coming and going. But we’re always looking for talented writers who have an interesting perspective on politics, news, sports, science, whatever. Remember: our inaugural motto was “Something New For Everyone!” We have always been about more than politics, and will continue to expand our offerings in the future.

Paid Posts are Coming

Look, even on the Substack platform, it costs a few bucks to advertise and do a few other things related to creating a good product. Most of The Duckpin will remain free. There may be one or two paid articles or pieces of content per month that will only cost a very, very nominal fee.

Advertising May Come, Too

This Monday email goes out to over 35,000 people each Monday morning. So yeah, there are some people who probably want to be in front of those eyeballs. While I am not committed to soliciting sponsors yet, I will tell you this: the number of advertisers will be limited to one per week and the advertisers will have no influence over the content of what we write.

The Duckpin Network

Have you ever been interested in The Duckpin having a streaming television network? Well, good news; we are intending to launch a streaming television network in the first half of the year. More on this as we get closer to launch date.

Twitch

Yes, we have a Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/the_duckpin). We have a show or two in development right now that would stream live on Twitch and would be repeated later on The Duckpin Network.

So What Isn’t Changing?

Everything you like about The Duckpin already. Interesting columns. Provocative analysis. A perspective that most people refuse to print. If you are a fan of The Duckpin, nothing is going to change. If you hate read The Duckpin, nothing is going to change. But what I don’t want to happen is for the product to become stagnant. And a post-election environment is the perfect time for that kind of expansion and evolution of what The Duckpin is and can become.

Here’s to change and the New Year!
