The Monday Thought
Donald Trump’s got a bit going on, from 91 criminal cases, to possibly running afoul of prosecutors over what he keeps saying, to trying to find an exit ramp out of the charges at all. That doesn’t even count Mark Meadows kneecapping his defense in the classified documents case.
So in that respect, we should not be surprised that Trump is skipping the Republican Presidential Debate this week.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed Sunday that he will be skipping Wednesday’s first Republican presidential primary debate — and others as well.
“The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had,” Trump wrote on his social media site. “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” His spokesman did not immediately clarify whether he plans to boycott every primary debate or just those that have currently been scheduled.
Instead, Trump will counterprogram with a softball interview with disgraced hack Tucker Carlson. Talk about two guys who deserve each other….
Strategically, Trump’s refusal to debate makes sense. Frontrunners never want to share a stage with those running far behind them.
But it also goes to show how much Trump’s trademark “toughness” is little more than bluster and bravado. Trump would get eaten alive by Chris Christie, Will Hurd, and others on that debate stage who are trying to offer an alternative to Trumpism. While Trump hopes that by not appearing it will take a bit away from the oxygen of that balloon, it also shows us what we already know.
Donald Trump is a chickenshit who can give it but can’t take it.
Sure, Trump will have Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy on the debate stage to carry his jock for him, it just goes to show how weak of a candidate truly is and again highlights how much of a delicate snowflake he is when faced with facts that do not conform to his imagined reality.
Trump truly remains the Flavor of the Weak.
