Episode #39
I’ve been thinking a lot about loyalty in politics and keeping your word. That’s an important thing, in politics and in life.

My column is now appearing in both The Capital and the Carroll County Times. This week, I stated the obvious: Kelly Schulz is the only credible Republican candidate for Governor.
The Monday Thought
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are finally going to happen this week. It’s not exactly the games that anybody, particularly the Tokyo Host Committee, thought they were going to be. More on that later this week.
In the past, I’ve kinda slept on the Summer Olympics. I’ve always been more of a Winter Olympics guy, enjoying watching curling, speed skating and hockey more than the offerings in the Summer.
This year though, I’m really looking forward to the Summer Olympics. We really got into watching track and field this spring, watching the NCAA Championships, the US Championships, and the Olympic Trials while they aired on NBC Sports. So I’m kinda intrigued seeing how these American athletes do against the rest of the world.
There are other reasons I’m really into the Olympics right now though. It’s good to see major international competitions like this to return. It’s good to have something unifying going on that gets all Americans (generally) rooting for the same side. It’s good seeing just how much better American athletes are in toto than the rest of the world.
Amazingly, there are 339 events at this year’s Olympics. There are new events, including 3x3 basketball, freestyle BMX, and “Madison Cycling.” Baseball and softball are back.
