The Monday Thought
As it relates to COVID restrictions, last week sure was a wild week wasn’t it.
We started the week with people talking about the need for masking and by the end of the week a majority of the mask requirements and restrictions have been removed.
We’re now living in an interesting and chaotic set of mask rules. At least in Maryland, the mask rules say that if you are vaccinated you don’t need to wear a mask, leaving restrictions in place for schools, public transit, and health care facilities.
Of course, this creates a bit of chaos and confusion, especially when it relates to the fact that individual businesses can keep their own mask restrictions in place.
Here are my thoughts on the entire matter:
If you aren’t vaccinated, you should definitely wear the mask;
If you are vaccinated, you shouldn’t wear the mask but if you want to whatever, it’s a free country;
Businesses are private businesses and not instruments of government and if they want to enforce a mask mandate, that’s their right. Just please post it clearly so everybody knows what’s going on.
Sunday was really the first day that we went out since the mask mandate was removed. It was the first time we really had gone out without having a mask with us since a trip to Jug Bay on March 21, 2020 and the first time we had gone in an indoor public setting without one without since going to the B&O Museum on March 14, 2020.
At Church, everybody did a pretty good job maintain the new Archdiocesan requirement of three feet of social distancing. I’d say it was a bout 50-50 of parishioners wearing masks or not.
We went bowling in the afternoon (duckpins, obviously) The signs said to wear a mask. We went inside, nobody was wearing a mask, and we removed our mask because clearly nobody was enforcing it anyway.
Even when the signs aren’t confusing, things are getting confusing.
What the world doesn’t need, however, are knuckeheads who want to keep wearing a mask because they think they’ll look like a conservative otherwise.
Don’t worry, there are people on the other side of aisle just as petulant about people wearing masks voluntarily or businesses asking people to mask up in their establishments.
We finally made it through the pandemic and people still can’t stop being political jerks to each other.
The removal of the mask mandate is a big step in the efforts to get this state, this country back to normal. The last thing we need is a bunch of jackwagons getting all political about it. Embrace it. Enjoy it…..
…..then next week we can talk about inflation.
