Jerome Segal, who most recently ran for Governor of Maryland, has decided that he is going to continue his newfound career as a perennial candidate by running for President. Again:
As speculation about who will run for president in 2024 continues to swirl, one man is already announcing his bid as the first Democratic candidate to mount a challenge against President Joe Biden.
On Monday, political activist Jerome Segal announced his decision to pursue the nomination from the Democratic Party, with a campaign focused on job security and peace in the Middle East.
This is now the fifth attempt for office for Segal since 2018:
Segal ran for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate in 2018 against Ben Cardin and Chelsea Manning.
Segal announced he would start the Bread and Roses Party and attempted to run as their Senate candidate also in 2018, but was thwarted by Maryland’s sore loser law.
He then jumped into the presidential race as the Bread and Roses Candidate in 2020, a pointless effort that saw Segal obtain ballot access only in Maryland and Vermont, and write-in access in only six others.
After folding the Bread and Roses Party, Segal jumped into the race for Governor of Maryland as a Democrat. He received 4,090, for a solid 9th place in a 10-man race.
And his 2024 Presidential run will be his fifth failed attempt, probably launching him into number six. He’s trying to become the left’s answer to Charles Lollar.
And yet, because he was the first “serious” Democrat to announce against Biden officially, he gets a write-up in Newsweek. But then again, when you look at the other Democrats who have “announced” to run against Biden as Democrats, you’d write about Segal first too.
If you want to know why Segal isn’t taken seriously as a threat, this is all you need to know:
Segal has made his support for Palestinian rights a centerpiece of all his campaigns and this time will be no different. He said he was going to put off announcing his presidential campaign until after this year’s midterm elections but felt compelled to announce earlier following what he called President Biden’s recent “embarrassing” visit to the Middle East.
“My main work over the last 40 years has been dedicated to conflict resolution, in particular regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and I believe we must work in America to reverse the trend toward a new civil war,” Segal said. “So, I will run against Joe Biden, and I will run on two primary issues: How to bring the simple living option to all Americans [and] how to bring peace to the Middle East.
I don’t plan on spending my last years making increasingly pointless runs for public office.
But maybe Segal has John Leopold Syndrome and nothing else to do with his life at this juncture. Not saying I won’t though. Gotta do something in retirement……
