Two years ago, Democratic Nominee for Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater declared herself to be a racist.

That makes it all the more fascinating that the state-level unions trying to buy off Frederick County in support of Fitzwater’s campaign are erasing America’s greatest civil rights icon from history.

In a mailer supporting Fitzwater and the Democratic slate of candidates for the Frederick County Board of Education, erase Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Literally.

May be an image of 3 people, people standing and text that says 'Education, You Have a Choice True History Or Whitewashed History'

What makes it all the more bizarre is that the mailer tries to pigeonhole the support for Fitzgerald in a piece that is supposedly about the Board of Education and curriculum content.

The MSEA is trying to whitewash Fitzwater’s sordid history with this flyer, but did it in the most offensive way possible. Especially considering that nobody, of any party, is suggesting that teachers be censored from teaching about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

Why the Maryland State Education Association would decide to make a racist flyer trying to erase Dr. King from history in support of Fitzwater, who has acknowledged that she herself is a racist, is stunning. It is a throwback to the days of the machine politics of the racist Maryland Democrats of the 1940’s and 1950’s. It has no place in modern politics.
