Unsurprisingly, Cox Not Committed to Accepting the Election Result

Dan Cox denied the results in Maryland in 2020. No surprise he won't commit to accepting them this time.

To the surprise of nobody, Dan Cox is already refusing to commit to accepting the results of this November’s general election.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Dan Cox is raising doubts about whether he will accept the results of November’s election.

That may hinge on whether election workers begin canvassing mail-in ballots before Election Day, Cox suggested Monday afternoon.

“When we see the electoral process upheld, when we see the law and the constitution upheld, that’s where we get our confidence,” Cox said during a press conference in Baltimore.

Cox of course accepted the results of the July primary election.

All of Cox’s complaints relate to a hearing that was held today on the plan by the Maryland State Board of Elections to count received absentee ballots prior to Election Day.

I’ll leave it to the courts to decide the legality of the law and the interpretation of the term emergency. Governor Larry Hogan vetoed a bill on this very subject that was passed during this year’s Maryland General Assembly session.

Cox reinforced the claim today in a press gaggle after the hearing on Cox’s lawsuit this morning.

@md_sbe @wbaltv11 @GovLarryHogan Cox asked: why he’d accept a ruling in his favor on *this election-related matter…when he remains an election denier despite dozens of courts across the country ruling otherwise? He did not answer.

@md_sbe @wbaltv11 @GovLarryHogan Cox maintained court can’t legislate election calendar. I pointed out the GOP Primary he won, took place on date determined by a judge after court-ordered delay…asked accept that court-intervention but not this one? He walked away and did not answer.

I guess by Cox’s own logic then his primary win was unconstitutional?

Humorously, Amara also tweeted out this nugget from the out-of-state attorney Cox had flown in for the occasion:

Look, it is no surprise that Dan Cox refuses to commit to accepting the results of his election. Remember, last summer Cox was spreading bogus conspiracies with wild and absurd theories about election fraud in Maryland that. Claims that don’t stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever. But it is still flat-out embarrassing that a statewide candidate of one of the two major parties in the state of Maryland refuses to commit to accepting the results of an election.

Republican voters bought this ticket. Hope they’re enjoying the ride…
