Voodoo Wiffle won their first ever tournament by defeating the Juggernauts 6-0 in the finals of Mid Atlantic Wiffleโs Wiffle Wars IV today in York, PA.
David โToastโ Wood hit two home runs and pitched a complete game shutout in the finals. Sean Steffy also hit a pair of home runs and Jordan Robles hit one to complete Voodooโs scoring.
Voodoo had a tough road to the final. In their first playoff game, they defeated ERL 1-0 on a fifth-inning home run by Robles off of ERLโs Dan Whitener. This was the first time in five MAW tournaments this year that ERL was eliminated prior to the championship game.
In the semi-finals, Voodoo defeated the New School Risers on a Robles walk-off home run to give Voodoo a 3-0 win. The win ended the Risers Cinderella run, who rode captain Dave Capobiancoโs left-arm to the semis. The former American Ninja Warrior was an iron man, pitching five complete games and 37 2/3 innings on the day, including a tough 11-inning loss in the first round of pool play.
With their win, Voodoo take possession of the coveted orange MAW belt and punch their ticket to the MAW Playoffs September 11th in York, Pennsylvania. They join the New York Meats, ERL, and East Coast Elite as automatic qualifiers for the playoffs.
