What Do Dan Cox and Church Militant Have in Common?
Cox appeared at convention of conservative "Catholic" group collaborating with White Nationalists
Dan Cox spoke at the Church Militant’s Call To Action Convention (Detroit, MI, Aug. 19-21)
I knew nothing about Church Militant, other than my initial reaction was concern for a name such as “Church Militant”. The Duckpin has previously written on Church Militant. You might want to read this again:
Back to Dan Cox and Church Militant and the Call to Action Convention.
From Church Militant’s Twitter Page, letting us know that Dan Cox is confirmed for the Convention:
On stage, Dan spoke these words: “God had a purpose. God had a purpose for me. I will never stand on this stage as the Republican nominee for Governor (without God?) and not advance the prolife position, to advance the pro-family position, to advance expanding our freedoms and hopefully Maryland better than Florida. If you think DeSantis is great, wait until you see me! “ (The video is difficult to hear; thus, the above quote is paraphrased as best as I could hear.
You can go either to Church Militant’s FB Page to view or Cox’s daughter Patience has also placed this video on her FB page.
I researched Church Militant and here is what I found.
A quote from The Society of Saint Pius X (an international fraternity of traditionalist Catholic priests): “It is well-known that Church Militant is not a serious journalistic enterprise but a repository of sensationalized stories, hit pieces, and videos featuring the opinion of its controversial founder, Michael Voris. Further, Church Militant has repeatedly used the SSPX’s name to generate web-clicks and revenue while hoping to stoke the fires of public controversy by baiting it into a war of words. Prudence dictates caution when dealing with a tabloid, and we will not be so baited.” (U.S. District Responds to Church Militant. Society of Saint Plus X. Retrieved August 22, 2022 from Wikipedi.org).
Catholic scholar Anthea Butler and Jesuit James Martin called Church Militant racist and homophobic. The Archdiocese of Detroit issued a disclaimer distancing itself from Church Militant.
NY Times, Samuel Freedman: Church Militant’s alleged “right-wing stances, . . . mesh with many of the positions espoused by Mr. Trump and his inner circle.” Freedman characterizes Voris’ position as one that dismisses anthropogenic climate change, thinks the Black Lives Matter movement is akin to “the new fascism” and called Hilary Clinton “Killary,” who was acting as “Satan’s mop for wiping up the last remaining resistance to him in America.”
Robert Allen (Detroit Free Press, 2017) wrote: Voris’ apostolate’s position as “a fringe group claiming to be Catholic but denounced by the church, that broadcasts pro-life, anti-gay, anti-feminist, Islam-fearing content on its website” and that “many of Church Militant’s headlines are similar to those on Breitbart News”.
May 2022, far-right Nick Fuentes’ Cozy.TV was promoted by Church Militant as an ongoing collaboration between the Groyper movement and far-right Catholics. (Groyper is a white nationalist group who are noted for introducing far right politics into mainstream conservatism in the US. They participated in Jan 6th attack and attempted insurrection. The group has been described as white nationalist, homophobic, nativist, fascist, sexist, and anti-Semitic, in an attempt to rebrand the alt-right movement. Wikipedia, 2022)
The involvement of Groyper in our politics should concern us all. We need no further white nationalist groups involved in our campaigns or allowing them to wield any power.
The Atlantic has a video of Church Militant’s operations.
A page from their website from The Vortex: “Michael Voris delivers the hard-hitting truth on The Vortex, where lies and falsehoods are trapped and exposed.” The titles alone are a bit unnerving.
There are several videos/news pieces with Dan Cox interviewed or mentioned on their website. You can browse for yourself.
Communication initiated by Dan Cox to Church Militant the day after the primary election results were in: ‘" Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory. Now on to beat the anti-life and anti-American agenda this fall and win for freedom," Cox texted Church Militant this morning.’
Another quote from the same article re: Dan Cox: “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory.” Also, “The Catholic candidate called the orders (referring to Hogan’s shutdown) ‘restrictive and protracted.’” Is Dan now their Catholic Candidate?
Church Militant also interviewed Cox as part of Special Assignment: Turf War 2.0, earlier this year. You can search on their website for the title.
Not to be left out, Michael Peroutka, Maryland candidate for Attorney General (also known as a Jan 6 conspiracy theorist) is involved with Church Militant.
I just have to ask:
Why was Dan Cox there?
Is he a Catholic Church Militant? Because Church Militant referred to him as that. Cox told the Frederick News Post in 2019 that he was raised in a Catholic family but now attends Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, a Calvinist church.
Why does Dan Cox not visit with the MSM? After all, he does have to win the vote of the RINO’s (whom he has bashed numerous times) and Independents and Democrats. I’m not certain he would find these voters associated with Church Militant?
Yes, this is Dan Cox on stage last weekend with the Church Militant Call To Action Conference in Detroit.
Associations of the candidate do make the candidate.
This should be unnerving to many of us.
