What Does Dana Schallheim Think She's Doing?
Anne Arundel Board of Ed Member was Talking About Teacher Contract Negotiations With an Active Union Member on Facebook.
Anne Arundel County Board of Education Member Dana Schallheim was discussing negotiations between the Board of Ed on a thread with an active TAAAC Member.
Schallheim was discussing the matter on a thread on The Capital’s Facebook page three weeks ago. Brendan Maltese, who is an active TAAAC Member, was part of the conversation.
Schallheim noted that “we have increased teacher salaries substantially over the past three years providing nearly all of the back and lost experience steps with the final round hopefully to be finalized soon.” This is in reference to the active negotiations between the Board and TAAAC that seem to have reached a stalemate.
What on earth would possess Schallheim to discuss these negotiations in public is beyond me but. A Board of Education has no business discussing negotiations between the Board and a union member anywhere outside of formal negotiations, much less on public forum like The Capital’s Facebook page.
Dana Schallheim should be reprimanded by the Board of Education for her incomprehensible actions, should be excluded from future negotiations, and should be forced to recuse herself on votes related to the contract. This type of breach of protocol and confidentiality is unconscionable. Students, teachers, and taxpayers deserve better than the recklessness Schallheim has shown with her cavalier attitude on discussion these negotiations in public.
What Does Dana Schallheim Think She's Doing?
She didn’t mention anything that wasn’t already known.. it had nothing to do with upcoming negotiations besides just basically saying that “they are still working on it.” She didn’t say anything confidential and only stated things that everyone knows. She’s allowed to talk to people.
