Why Can't Wes Focus?
Wes Moore, like Martin O'Malley Before Him, Seems too Focused on National Issues to Do the Job
You can’t go more than a few days without Governor Wes Moore appearing on some sort of national platform to talk about some sort of national issue that is not related to Maryland. Hell, he had two just today (CNN Live This Morning, Roland Martin
Unfiltered this evening). At least on CNN he was talking about Maryland and the FBI Headquarters.

Now, however, he’s using state government to make statements that have nothing to do with state business.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Moore released the following statement regarding the Texas hearing seeking to revoke the FDA approval of Mifepristone:
“Since the FDA approved two-dose medication for abortions more than 20 years ago, more than 5 million people have used mifepristone as a safe and effective healthcare option. Attempts to restrict access to mifepristone are not based on scientific justification—these are nothing more than politically motivated attacks to dismantle women's rights to make decisions about their own health care.
Let me be clear: reproductive freedom is non-negotiable. Maryland is proud to stand with other states in the fight to protect reproductive rights and we will continue to do everything in our power—including through recent action taken by Attorney General Brown to join a multi-state lawsuit challenging restrictions on mifepristone—to ensure that Maryland remains a safe haven for abortion and reproductive health care care access.”
Mifepristone is of course RU-486, the “morning after pill.” Though Moore calls it “safe and effective” the accurately named RU-486 has resulted in 5 million deaths across the United States. Its use constitutes over half the abortions in this country every year. Since those deaths were unborn children, that is of little concern to Wes Moore.
I guess Wes Moore just loves making sure Americans can kill their children at will. Typical, when you always tell people….
But getting beyond Moore’s immoral stance on aborton, why is it Wes Moore’s concern at the moment what Texas is doing in relation to mifepristone?
The lawsuit is currently in the U.S. Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas. It still needs to make it through the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals before it even reaches the Supreme Court. This is not a nationwide federal issue until it reaches that point, and even then I’m not sure what the outlook would be at SCOTUS. Even if SCOTUS were to declare it illegal, Maryland women still hellbent on killing their unborn child would have options due to Maryland’s insistence on making the process safe, easy, and cheap.
The real question is, why can’t Wes Moore focus? Sure, it’s easy to do photo ops driving a car.
Sure, it’s easy flying to Florida to take batting practice and throw out the first pitch at Spring Training.
Sure, it’s easy to practice your jumper at a Wizards game.
But why is Moore so focused on talking about national issues? Why is he so enamored with plastering his face all over national media outlets? Is it because he wants to be President? Or is it because the job of Governor is too big for an inexperienced, unqualified leader like Moore? Is it because the generic, talking-head-friendly persona that Wes Moore has can talk in general terms about national issues but can’t handle the day-to-day slog of actually governing?
Either way, Maryland has real problems at home. Inflation. Taxes. Failing schools. A crime wave of violence aimed at Baltimore’s youth. An Administration that, on his direction, is trying to make it too expensive to live and work in Maryland. And yet, Moore took time away from that to dedicate his focus to a court case in Texas that has nothing to do with Maryland.
Anything to avoid running the state, right?
Maryland needs a Governor focused on doing right for the state and putting people before politics. Instead, we’ve got Wes Moore.
Guess Wes is totally cool with Martin’s gay-bashing past.
OK, if that sounds like jealousy on my part…..guilty.
