Eyes Off the Prize
The Special Session starts tomorrow, but you wouldn't know it from what some local Republican groups are prioritizing
The Special Session of the Maryland General Assembly dealing with Congressional Redistricting starts tomorrow. But you wouldn’t know that was important if you listen to the messaging coming out of some local Republican groups.
In their latest version of the Montgomery County Republican Party Party Line, MCGOP Chairman Reardon Sullivan is prioritzing the following:
An opinion piece about “Wearing the Woke Cloth.”
In a flashback to 2004, promoting a seminar from the Institute on the Constitution and their leader, Michael Peroutka;
An infographic from the House Committee on Education and Labor Republicans;
An opinion piece about the science of forced vaccinations.
Other than a feature on county Republican women serving on the Maryland Federation of Republican Women Board, you wouldn’t know that Montgomery County was even in Maryland. Everything was focused on national issues. Redistricting and the Special Session were not mentioned once.
Over in Dorchester County, their Republican Central Committee is talking about politics on their Facebook page. National politics, of course. The few local things they are talking about are still focused on their continued stumping for Dan Cox.
At least Dorchester and Montgomery Counties were talking about politics. The Maryland Young Republicans sent out….this.
Just to reiterate, they sent an email with these photoshopped graphics asking who would be the better Buddy the Elf.
We’re a long way away from the focused and disciplined Maryland Young Republicans of six months ago.
In normal times, I wouldn’t have beef with any of this. But all of these groups were focused on other things when they should have been encouraging their membership and supporters to prepare for the Special Session, submit written testimony, sign up to testify in person, and contact their Delegates and Senators about Congressional Redistricting which is happening right now.
Governor Hogan, virtually all of the State Senators and Delegates, the State Party, and activists around the state are laser focused on redistricting, the most important fight for Republicans in ten years. And yet these groups are giving us Woke Cloth and Buddy the Elf.
If the leaders of these political groups don’t want to engage in useful politics, I’m sure they could step aside and let those willing to do the work get down to the task.
Next time they try and attract young people to political events hopefully they’ll ask the 50 year old loser that wrote this what he knows. 🤓
Oh no, the Party, it’s broken
